HORIZON RP110
Building a custom yacht is a very challenging endeavour. Thousands of details are addressed during the construction of every quality yacht, and even the most minor design change or adjustment in a yacht build requires in-depth analysis by an experienced professional team to ensure that safety, comfort, performance and delivery schedule are not compromised. In the case of the Horizon RP110, The Legion, the customization began with the requests of an experienced owner.
“I didn’t want the same as everybody else,” said the Australian owner, who returned to Horizon to build his third yacht – this time equipped with a specific list of “must have” features he compiled during visits to superyacht shows around the world. He remained very involved in the design and details of this one-of-a-kind vessel and visited the Horizon facility in Kaohsiung a total of 20 times during the two-year construction period.
The design of The Legion was based on the proven RP110 platform, designed by J.C. Espinosa, to which the owner requested a five-foot hull extension as well as the addition of a ten-foot, ten-inch swim platform. This resulted in a very a customized yacht with an LOA of 121’ 10”. Lengthening the hull allowed for an enlarged aft deck entertaining area and a custom beach club equipped with a sauna, changing room, bar, kitchenette and plenty of space for watertoys. The owner further enhanced the yacht’s eye-catching profile by selecting a deep navy blue for the hull, which is dramatically set off at night by 28 units of blue underwater lights fitted within the hull.
Designed to provide the ultimate indoor/outdoor experience, The Legion has been designed with a combined skylounge/open bridge configuration that offers an enclosed, climate-controlled skylounge with an impressive seven-foot-wide electrical Hi/Lo window. The spacious flybridge features a custom designed octagonal Jacuzzi for ten with an integrated waterfall, as well as a full bar and entertainment area.
The owner, who was keen to operate the boat himself, requested all of the equipment needed for a global-roaming explorer superyacht. The Legion is fitted with complete ship’s control and monitoring systems, from a Yacht Controller to a multifunctional pilot console featuring the OctoPlex and Maretron systems, automatic fuel transfer function and wireless remote control for all hydraulic systems.
Perhaps the most notable customization, however, is the massive Hi/Lo carbon fiber swim platform the owner specified to accommodate and launch his three-ton, 28’ center console Scout fishing vessel. The platform’s hydraulic system, custom-fabricated by Aritex, is more complex than most commercial vessels. The cradle moves back and forth as well as dropping down, providing three stages of lift for complete control while launching the support vessel.
Designer Cor D. Rover executed the owner’s request for a “wow factor” within the yacht’s interior, where high gloss Macassar Ebony, black, crystal and gold detailing compliments bespoke furniture and high-end materials.
At the end of each customized build project, such as this one, we at Horizon are tremendously proud of the extraordinary efforts of our architects, designers, engineers and the entire Horizon team, whose collaboration with the owner resulted in another exceptional vessel. Upon taking delivery of his new yacht, the owner remarked, “Horizon went to great lengths to achieve my vision. Their craftspeople went above and above in every facet of the build to achieve the pinnacle of customisation. The entire team excelled. I am extremely happy, satisfied and proud of the end product.”
HORIZON FD85
The Horizon FD85 JULIND, hull six of the FD85 series, is the first fast displacement motoryacht the Horizon Group has delivered to Australia. Drawn by the expansive living and entertaining spaces aboard the FD85 that rivaled 100-foot-plus megayachts, the owner worked with Horizon to create an interior for JULIND that perfectly suited his active yachting lifestyle.
Highlighted by a blend of leather and dark Wenge wood in matte finish, JULIND’s European-styled interior exudes a zen-like atmosphere that is accented by Horizon’s exquisite craftsmanship and detailed carpentry.
The floor-to-ceiling glass windows surrounding her spacious main salon bring panoramic views and plenty of natural light into the interior. A custom, L-shaped Italian Nappa leather sofa invites relaxation while double-layer electric blinds can be adjusted remotely for privacy. Adjacent to the salon, the formal dining area with see-through views at both sides houses a clear tempered glass table seating ten guests. The portside galley fitted with high-end German appliances and plenty of storage space satisfies the demands for long journeys as well as banquets, while a climate-controlled storage room next to the passageway leading to the master stateroom offers additional pantry storage.
The entire yacht is fitted with a Crestron audio-visual and entertainment system that is easily controlled via smart phone. During the installation process at the yard, the Crestron engineers were so impressed by Horizon’s meticulous wiring and clear labeling that they were able to expedite the installation in less than the scheduled time.
Designed to maximize the views and natural light afforded by the FD85’s exterior styling, the on-deck master stateroom features extra-wide windows and an Oceanair skylight for even more light. The full-height headboard is designed with indirect light, while the side table, crafted of Nero Marquina marble, is ingeniously designed to create a floating illusion. In addition to a built-in vanity to port and loveseat to starboard, a well-planned forward bathroom fitted in Statuario Venato marble features a separate toilet and shower and floating sink cabinets with dual basins. To allow the owner and guests to monitor the real-time navigation information, multi-view panels were installed in the master stateroom, VIP forward and Crew mess.
The pilothouse aboard the FD85 JULIND motoryacht has been designed for the ultimate in comfort, providing excellent visibility and high ceilings that set off the elegant dark Wenge and brown leather console, which houses the Furuno navigation system and Böning digital monitoring system controls. An L-shaped settee situated to port is an ideal place for meeting or chatting with the Captain while underway.
On the lower deck, four ensuite guest staterooms comprise a VIP forward, two mirrored VIP staterooms amidships, and a twin stateroom to starboard, each offering separate toilets and showers with light-colored linens and soft goods that underscore the homey environment. Four crew members are accommodated in two comfortable bunk cabins with a crew mess and prep area situated near the engine room.
The convenient amenities and customized interior layout add to the owner and guests’ comfort as they enjoy cruising aboard JULIND. The interesting and unique features do not stop with her interior, however, as JULIND is the first Fast Displacement Series model to incorporate a helipad.
HORIZON CC98
Customized for her experienced owner, the new CC98 has been designed for long-range cruising and will accommodate a helicopter as well as a submarine.
A loyal Horizon yacht owner has ordered his latest dream yacht – a Horizon Custom Collection (CC) 98. This is fourth Horizon vessel for the experienced Australian owner, who requested specific – and somewhat challenging – details drawn from the best aspects of his previous vessels, including accommodations for a helicopter as well as a submarine.
An adventurous yachtsman who enjoys cruising to remote locations, the owner, having previously owned a CC80, an E84 and an E88, requested that his new yacht feature an exterior style similar to the Horizon E Series yachts. He also liked the interior space and natural light afforded by the FD Series and approached the yard with a request for a combination of both. Thus, this new CC98 will boast a unique exterior profile, with expansive windows and a spacious interior within a 23’ 6” beam.
To accommodate a touch-and-go helipad, the entire superstructure of this new vessel will be constructed of carbon fiber composite, which not only guarantees strength and structural integrity for the helipad but also considers hull performance and efficiency by significantly reducing the weight of the upper decks.
To accommodate either a submarine or a large inflatable (up to 24ft LOA) on the boat deck, the enclosed skylounge will be positioned forward an additional six feet. 4-ton and 1.5-ton lifting cranes will be incorporated to manage the launch and retrieval of such large pieces of equipment. This yacht also features a telescoping mast and radar arch to navigate the low bridges in Australia.
Within the spacious interior, guests will be accommodated in five staterooms including a full-beam, on-deck master suite. A large galley area is positioned aft on the main deck to facilitate dining either on the aft deck or at the interior dining table. Relaxation and entertaining areas are found throughout and the foredeck has been designed to accommodate a jacuzzi and large sunpad.
Great consideration was given to the engine selection so as to accommodate long-range and efficient cruising. With this in mind, commercial-grade 10V 2000 series MTU engines have been chosen. The ZF trailing gearboxes are designed for full redundancy and to enable the ability to run on one motor, which reduces fuel burn and engine hours. Lithium-ion battery packs will also be installed to offset the house functions such as air conditioning and general electricity. The fuel capacity has also substantially increased to 6.500 U.S. gals (24.600l).
Currently under construction and on schedule to deliver to her owner in early 2021, the new Horizon CC98 will easily provide the owner the opportunity
with his family, friends and favorite toys. This fourth Horizon is a dream vessel for an owner who appreciates the exceptional quality, proven functionality, and opportunities for customization and innovation that sets Horizon Yachts apart from its competitors.
About the Horizon Custom Collection (CC) Series: Horizon prides itself on its advanced customization capabilities offered to every series build. The Custom Collection (CC) designation is reserved for one-of-a-kind, fully custom builds that showcase exceptional design and engineering.
HORIZON V68
Designed in collaboration with renowned Seattle-based superyacht designer Jonathan Quinn Barnett, the V68 concept was intended as a true “pocket superyacht” that boasted the space and amenities desired aboard a large yacht in an easy-to-handle owner/operator layout. Horizon worked with Stimson Yacht Design to draw the lines of the yacht, which resulted in a 66’ 1” waterline with a vertical bow.
In the V68, the experienced owner found a boat that met his request for plenty of amenities while allowing him to comfortably navigate from either the interior helm station or the open flybridge – which offers EZ2CY enclosures during inclement weather. The interior layout was a draw, particularly the internal staircase from the main deck to the flybridge and the built-in staircase from the aft deck to the flybridge. The wide walkaround side decks and wireless docking controls make carrying lines and fenders and the overall docking operation effortless.
Reminiscent of a chic city loft, the V68’s 19’ 6” beam, large sections of glass and open interior layout drew the owner to the three-stateroom yacht, which offered much larger accommodations and indoor/outdoor entertaining spaces than yachts of similar size. The amount of exterior areas for entertaining were more than ideal, from the boat deck bar and the open flybridge with a dayhead to the foredeck seating and aft deck. But perhaps it was the beach club aboard the V68 that sealed the deal, giving these owners much more than they could imagine in a vessel under 75 feet in length.
The new owners took delivery of their new yacht on July 22, 2020 and plan to spend the rest of the summer cruising the mid-Atlantic.
HORIZON CC110
Horizon Yachts is pleased to announce we recently signed a new, custom-designed CC110 motoryacht order for a repeat German owner; this new 110-foot yacht will be the owner’s fifth Horizon – he previously built an Horizon E series 81-foot in 2003 and an 88-foot in 2008. For this special CC110 project, Horizon’s in-house naval architect team collaborated with well-known German designer Beiderbeck to create a raised pilothouse design that focuses on blending entertaining spaces with functional living areas, while also providing unparalleled views on every level.
Innovative spatial concepts on both the interior and exterior encompass the owner’s yachting lifestyle in his new Horizon CC110. The main salon is voluminous and open in layout, with curved wood cabinetry to port and curved seating to starboard that will easily accommodate 20 guests; the formal dining is in prime location to either the main salon or to the port-side galley, perfect for entertaining on board between the three areas. Forward and up a few steps is the raised pilothouse and lower helm, along with a captain’s desk for navigational charts and plotting.
This new CC110 offers a total of three en suite guest staterooms – a full-beam, on-deck master and below deck a port twin guest stateroom and VIP starboard guest stateroom. The master suite is exceptionally well laid out with a King bed, dual walk-in closets, and large master bath; the guest staterooms below deck are located mid-ship and spacious, with room for four guests to rest in luxury. Crew quarters accommodate four crew members in two en suite bunk rooms, with crew mess aft of the crew rooms.
For the ultimate outdoor experience, the flybridge is equipped with sun loungers aft for soaking up the rays, as well as center-line dinette seating that allows maximum views while enjoying a meal. On the aft deck, a large settee and dining table will certainly play host for many family gatherings. For watersports, the aft tender garage can, at the touch of a button, lower the swim platform to launch a 5.1m tender; the area can also be used as a beach club for guests while swimming, diving, or just relaxing.
The new Horizon CC110 motoryacht is currently having her interior flooring fitted and is scheduled to launch in early 2017 with 2600HP engines.
“We are extremely proud to be building a fifth Horizon yacht for this valued client,” said Horizon Group CEO John Lu. “It is an honor to work with Beiderbeck in capturing the owner’s vision, and we have no doubt his new CC110 will be extraordinary.”
Horizon Yachts enjoys an excellent reputation for providing high quality luxury yachts and in our nearly 30 years of experience, we have gained the trust of owners around the world in building their dream yachts. An estimated one third of all our owners return to build their second, third and even fourth Horizon yachts.
Horizon Yachts is pleased to announce that after a year and a half in build, the brand new Horizon CC110 “ABACO” has just completed her sea trials and is preparing for delivery to her owners later this month. “ABACO” is a customized build project for her repeat Horizon owners from Germany – this boat will be the owner’s fifth Horizon luxury yacht.
Under the supervision of owner’s representative, Stefan ZUCKER & PARTNER GmbH, Horizon’s in-house naval architect team worked with the owner’s selected designer, Beiderbeck Designs, to create an independent raised pilothouse within the 110-foot superyacht as well as to provide unparalleled views on all levels. The Horizon interior design team created a classically-styled interior for ABACO’s 23’6” beam to meet her owner’s demands, focusing on blending entertaining spaces with functional living areas for all the guests on board.
The voluminous main salon is the main point of the superyacht’s interior design. With curved wood cabinetry to port and starboard seating, “ABACO” can accommodate a total of 20 guests. Additionally, the formal dining area is in close proximity to both the main salon and the port-side galley, allowing for the owner to entertain guests easily between the three areas. With by large floor-to-celling windows, ABACO provides plenty of nature light and stunning views for the guests to enjoy. A full-beam on-deck master suite is exceptionally well laid out with a King bed, dual walk-in closets, and large master bath. Below deck, two spacious en suite guest staterooms – a port twin guest stateroom and VIP starboard guest stateroom – are located mid-ship; forward, crew quarters accommodate four crew members in two en suite bunk rooms, with crew mess aft of the crew rooms.
For the ultimate outdoor experience, the flybridge is appointed with aft sun loungers for soaking up rays and a center-line dinette seating allows maximum ocean views. For watersports, the large aft tender garage can, at the touch of a button, lower the swim platform to launch a BSC 51 tender (5.1m); the area can also be used as a beach club for guests while swimming, diving, or simply relaxing. A hydraulic dock ladder help guests easily board the boat. With twin MTU2600 HP engines and Bureau Vertias (BV) certification for Structure and Stability, the Horizon CC110 “ABACO” also offers BOENING Monitoring System, FURUNO Navigation System, Zero Speed Stabilizers, and WEBASTO Electronic Sunroof System, so the owner will cruise in comfort and safety in his new Horizon.
Horizon is pleased to have, yet again, surpassed the owner’s expectation for his new CC110 “ABACO”, and we wish the owner many wonderful memories on new superyacht!
HORIZON CC115
Custom features abound on the new and unique Horizon CC115, purposely designed to suit her South American clients’ yachting lifestyle.
The Horizon Yachts CC series is a division of the company that specializes in fully customized or limited series designs, allowing our clients to explore their options and truly “Define their Horizon” in the form of a unique luxury yacht – one that suits their lifestyle without compromise.
From the exterior profile to the interior layout and bespoke furnishings, the brand-new Horizon CC115 superyacht is fully tailored to her owners’ preferences. From the initial build meetings it was clear that the clients knew what they wanted for their superyacht, and a partnership was developed between the client, renowned luxury yacht designer Cor D. Rover, and Horizon’s in-house design team to bring the owner’s visions to life.
The CC115’s design was driven by her knowledgeable and experienced owners’ love of spending time with family and friends. Working with Horizon and Cor, the owner designed an exterior profile highlighted by expansive windows to create a bright, naturally-lit interior and afford panoramic views while underway. Features such as the manually operated swim platform – which allows the owner’s sea plane or jet skis to be transported – and the 13.5 degree angle on the bow cushions, so family and friends can share a movie night together, are just a few custom-built examples onboard.
Architecture and Interior design firm Taller ADG worked alongside Horizon to create a modern décor that invites the outdoor environment into the 25’ beam. Bespoke furniture complemented by tones of silver and grey and highlighted by upscale Listone Giordano wood floor as well as custom Dessié’s furniture from Italy, further distinguishes this stylish interior, which accommodates guests in five spacious staterooms including an on-deck master.
Equally thought through in every detail is the CC115’s layout, which provides a relaxing salon with dual TV’s, full beam on deck master, plus four ensuite cabins below and a “convertible” captain’s cabin that can be utilized for guests or crew. The CC115 also boasts a spacious beach club, accessed by large sliding glass doors, that features a day head and plenty of storage for the family’s water toys. With accessibility and usability being important features for the owners, the CC115 design incorporates a Portuguese bridge with access to the bow seating, while a hidden flybridge helm and interior raised pilothouse with dual exterior wing stations offer ease of operation from either of the two decks.
“It is owners who are our best designers, and nowhere is this more evident than with the new CC115 superyacht,” stated Horizon Group CEO John Lu. “She is a true masterpiece and a reflection of teamwork between the owners, Horizon, and Cor. We are proud to have built such a special luxury yacht and wish the owners years of memorable cruises and family fun on board.”
HORIZON E78
A brand-new Horizon E78 motoryacht has just been launched with an extremely unique feature: a hydraulic Hi-Lo hardtop and folding radar mast. Designed in-house by Horizon’s naval architects and engineers, this Hi-Lo hardtop utilizes a custom hydraulic system to lower the height of the yacht from 28’11” to 20’5”, allowing the yacht to easily cruise under fixed-height bridges like those found in the Great Lakes region; the folding radar mast can also be lowered separate of the hardtop if desired. “At Horizon, we pride ourselves in providing creative solutions to the design and usability issues that our clients face,” said Roger Sowerbutts, Director of Horizon Yacht USA. “We understand that many who boat up North in the summer, specifically in the Great Lakes area, are restricted in their cruising locations, and in the size yacht they can enjoy, due to fixed bridge heights. This location-specific design we created for the E78, with her unprecedented hydraulic hard top, was our answer to that problem, and she retains features that will appeal to boaters in the southern areas like Florida and the Bahamas as well.”
Horizon’s in-house design team balanced modern and traditional design elements for the E78 interior decor, utilizing warm North American walnut and Camphor woods, parquet cabinetry, marble, laser-engraved mirrors and neutral soft goods. Her three-stateroom ensuite layout accommodates six guests below deck with a King master stateroom, bow Queen VIP stateroom and twin guest stateroom; an en-suite crew stateroom and crew mess, with a third single bed, is found aft of the engines. Equipped with twin CAT C32 1600HP engines, this new Horizon E78 motoryacht cruises at 19 knots and reaches a top speed of 25 knots at full load; she also includes zero speed stabilizers, bow and stern thrusters, Maretron monitoring system, Hamann sanitary treatment system, and more. She successfully completed her seatrials in Kaohsiung and will deliver to the United States in May as an available yacht for sale!
